So You Don't Have To: No Tell Motel

April 30, 2015  /  Dawn Humphrey

Once again taking one for the cinematic team, Dawn explores the epic failure that is No Tell Motel and loses a large chunk of her faith in humanity. What she thought was going to be a standard run-of-the-mill supernatural slasher turned out to be something much, much, worse.

So how many ways can a movie screw up a standard ghost slasher flick? You'd be surprised.

WARNING: This movie and review contains discussion of rape, suicide and miscarriage because this film couldn't be bothered to handle them with any sensitivity and I'll be damned if I let them get away with that. Ugh.

Join us for our next regular Women In Caskets podcast: The Babadook

Which is a good movie.

A really, really, good movie.

Episode 4: Sticking the Landing

April 20, 2015  /  Dawn Humphrey

Join Dawn and Jen as they discuss two movies that, while flawed, manage to stick the landing and give the viewer an ending that makes the films unique in the horror genre.

WARNING: Spoilers for the movies April Fool's Day and Happy Birthday to Me abound.

So You Don't Have To: Mimesis

April 15, 2015  /  Dawn Humphrey

Due to issues beyond our control, your regular podcast will be late. But fear not! We have a brand new feature that we're debuting in it's place.

Join Dawn as she introduces you to the So You Don't Have To episodes where one of the Women In Caskets watches a truly awful movie and give you the rundown. Listen to the pain in our voices as we try to describe scenes that terrify us... and not in the good way.

Our first offering is the movie Mimesis. It's Scream, but with zombies and it almost made Dawn cry as she took one for the cinematic team.

New SYDHT podcasts will go up in between our regular podcasts.

Episode 3: April Fool's Day

April 01, 2015  /  Dawn Humphrey

EDIT: For those that have not listened to the podcast, it is a bit of an April Fool's Day gag. Instead of the promised podcast, we took a deep dive into the glorious film, It Follows.

Beautiful visuals and new take on the old trope of non virgin = DEATH make It Follows a runaway hit with critics and horror fans the world over. Please join us and take a listen!

Original post follows:

Welcome to Horror Takes a Holiday where we pay homage to the wonderful (cough) movie April Fool’s Day!

Join Jen and Dawn as they talk about that precious slasher film with an ending that makes you go, “Whaaaaaaa?” The kills, the chills, and the truly inspired acting are all picked apart for your amusement. A movie so epic, we’re giving it two whole podcasts.

SPOILER ALERT

This podcast contains spoilers for the following films: April Fool’s Day, Alien, Bride of Chucky and the out-now-go-see-this-film-damn-you, It Follows.
