Welcome to our Tropisode on the phenomenon of the Last Woman Standing. Also known as the Final Girl or Survivor Girl, she’s the oft lone survivor at the end of a horror film.  

Who is she? What are her origins? And what role does she play in horror cinema?

Join Jen and Dawn as they discuss the original Survivor Girls, their descendants, and take a look at a number of examples from movies from the 70’s to today.

We are so excited to finally release our first podcast to the world. It's been a long time coming and I'm sure my co-host would agree with me that this is definitely a labor of love. 

Who are the Women in Caskets? How did two feminists end up such horror nerds?

We answer these questions and more in our inaugural podcast. Come meet us as we give you a taste of what it will be like to listen to us chat about all things horrific.

The Nightmare on Elm Street documentary we reference is Never Sleep Again and is available on Netflix and Hulu.

Updates!

We're totally excited to let everyone know that we're getting ready to launch! The first episode will be released this week and after that, we're aiming for releases every 1st and 15th of the month with the occasional bonus episode. Our first podcast is recorded and as soon as we put the finishing touches on it, we'll be releasing it on our Soundcloud page here: https://soundcloud.com/women-in-caskets.

In the meantime, if the indie horror film It Follows is coming to your town, we can't recommend it enough. It's a spectacular slow-burn of a supernatural thriller that plays off old genre themes and remixes them into something that feels fresh and new. We won't spoil anything here, but if you are a fan of witty throwback cinema, this one's definitely for you!
