Episode 48: Horrific Agency

April 06, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Agency is a tricky thing, and none know it better than the female stars of Penny Dreadful and Westworld. Join Dawn and Jen as they discuss the highs and lows of demon brides, blank slates and hosts as they navigate their worlds and discover that sometimes, agency comes at a price.

At the end, a special tribute to a recently lost artist, and to lighten the mood some movie, cartoon and television recommendations!

Thanks always to The Shape for the intro music.

This episode's outro was "Devil, Devil" by Izzy Cox. If you liked that, you can check her out on You Tube HERE or on Last FM HERE.

So You Don't Have To: Stay Alive

March 24, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

It is a sad, sad, no-good, absolutely terrible day when Dawn realizes she did more research for a podcast than the writers did for their movie.

Saddled with a fundamental lack of understanding, 2006's Stay Alive is Exhibit A for the case against Hollywood ever managing to make a decent video game movie. Technical errors, gamer tropes and mechanics that can't stay consistent from one scene to the next, this film manages to fail on just about every level imaginable.

And Dawn's gonna tell you all about it.

Intro: Tristam Rock by mp from www.ocremix.org
Outro: Where the Demon Sleeps by katethegreat19 from www.ocremix.org

And a huge shout-out to Dawn's favorite gaming critics, analysts and historians, the crew at Extra Credits. Check out their You Tube Channel HERE.

Episode 47: XX-ceptional

March 15, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Jen and Dawn FINALLY get to talk about the female written and directed horror anthology XX. Four tales that manage to hold up to the hype and bring a few new somethings to the horror genre - most especially the sequel to [REDACTED] that we never knew we always wanted.

Plus some coming soons and the beginnings of our much-overdue Patreon thanks!

Thanks always to The Shape for the intro/outro music.

Episode 46: Sister Act

March 01, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Dawn and Jen welcome comic writer Lilah Sturges (@lilah_sturges) to the podcast to try and figure out what's really going on in 2003's A Tale of Two Sisters. It's a modern take on an old tale that's as open to interpretation now as it was when it came out.

Here are some links to Lilah's great work with Vertigo comics and a link to her game, Lifeline: Crisis Line!
