Episode 54: That's Hysterical: Part Two

July 26, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Before Dawn and Jen take a close look at two films featuring women who are not, as they say, all together sane, they wanted to to take a broader look at the way "crazy" women have been portrayed in horror cinema and television.

In the second of a two-part series, your hosts talk about what hysteria is historically and start to break down the different kinds of crazy ladies horror has to offer: the obsessions, the thirst for vengeance and those crazy, crazy Mommies of the silver screen.

You may want to listen to Part One first.

Below is a full list of the movies mentioned, including links to where they have been previously discussed in other episodes.

In the first of a two-part series, your hosts talk about what hysteria is historically and start to break down the different kinds of crazy ladies horror has to offer: the flat-out hysterical, the possessed, and the inherent evil of being female.

Below is a full list of the movies mentioned, including links to where they have been previously discussed in other episodes.

This week, Jen and Dawn give you a rundown of shows that aren't horror, but contain horrific elements you might terrifying and downright delightful. From Lynchian Gnomes to super-hero horror, the Women in Caskets hope find something new and exciting to watch, or even just gain an appreciation for the sometimes odd places horror can be found. Episode 50: We All Scream for More Scream: The Final Cut

June 21, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Once again, Jen and Dawn go on a journey of re-discovery through one of horror's most beloved franchises: Scream. Unfortunately, the franchise has hit the point of diminishing returns and the hosts just can't seem to recapture that old Scream magic. And then Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder were dragged into the discussion and there was a meat alarm and... good night, Sweet Franchise, and let ghost-masked killers stab thee to thy rest.

Please don't come back.

This episode is the part of a series looking at the entire Scream franchise. Scream is HERE. Scream 2 is HERE. The discussions (there were two) are HERE and HERE.

The indomitable Sydney Prescott also made an appearance on our Final Girls podcast, you can check that out HERE.

Thanks always to The Shape for the intro music.

Episode 52: A Podcast Comes at Night

June 14, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

For once, Dawn and Jen forgo their love of spoilers to give you a quick review of Trey Edward Shults' It Comes at Night. As they do, they treat you with selections of Shults' Q&A from the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow, selections from the haunting score by Brian McOmber and an interview with the director himself.

This thriller isn't what you expect, but it's damn good cinema.
